Quick answer

Paul has boasted to the Macedonians about Corinth's eagerness, and their zeal has stirred up many others. Their example has spurred wider generosity.

Overview

Paul reveals that he held up Corinth as a model to the Macedonian churches, and their enthusiasm provoked many to give. This shows how one church's zeal can inspire others. Yet it also raises the stakes: their professed readiness must now be matched by completed action.
