Quick answer

Paul's hardships are ultimately for the church's benefit, so that grace reaching more people multiplies thanksgiving to God. Everything aims at God's glory.

Overview

Paul frames his sufferings as serving the spread of grace to 'the many.' As more people receive God's grace, thanksgiving overflows and redounds to God's glory, which is the final goal of all things. The verse shows the God-centered purpose behind gospel ministry: the increase of grateful worship.
