Overview
Having read the rediscovered Book of the Law, Josiah leads a public covenant renewal and has all present formally take their stand under it. The people respond by living "according to the covenant of God," reflecting the recurring biblical pattern of hearing God's word and binding oneself to obey. Yet such outward, leader-driven reform could not change every heart, pointing ahead to the new covenant in which God writes his law on the heart (Jeremiah 31:33).
