Quick answer

The chief priest Azariah explained that since the people began giving, there was more than enough, for the Lord had blessed His people. It matters because the surplus testified to God's abundant blessing.

Overview

Azariah, of the house of Zadok, reported that the priests had eaten their fill and a great store remained, crediting Yahweh's blessing on His people. The abundance confirmed that obedient giving brings provision, not lack. This reflects the biblical principle that God supplies the needs of those who honor Him, supremely seen in Christ's care for His people.
