Quick answer
Ahaz walks in the idolatrous ways of Israel's kings and makes molten images for the Baals. He leads Judah into the very sins that had doomed the northern kingdom.
Overview
Rather than following David, Ahaz imitates the apostate northern kings and casts images for the Baals, plunging Judah into idolatry. The Chronicler sees this as a fundamental betrayal of the covenant LORD. Such rebellion shows the depth of human sin and magnifies the grace of God, who would send His Son to redeem an idolatrous people and turn their hearts back to true worship.
