Quick answer

Joash warned that Amaziah's boastful heart over defeating Edom would lead him to disaster if he provoked war. He urged him to stay home rather than court ruin.

Overview

Joash named Amaziah's underlying sin: a proud heart lifted up by victory. His counsel to remain content was sound advice that Amaziah would tragically ignore. The exchange illustrates how unchecked pride refuses wise warnings and rushes headlong toward its own destruction.
