Quick answer

Paul says they hardly need instruction on brotherly love, since God himself teaches them to love. The Spirit inclines believers' hearts to love one another.

Overview

Turning from purity to love, Paul commends them as already "taught by God to love one another." This divine teaching points to the inward work of the Spirit who writes God's law on the heart. Genuine Christian love is not merely learned by rule but produced by God within his people.
