Quick answer

Hiram was the son of a widow from Naphtali and a Tyrian father, filled with wisdom, understanding, and skill in bronze. God-given ability equipped him for the temple's work.

Overview

Hiram's mixed Israelite and Tyrian background, and his being filled with wisdom and skill, echo the language used of Bezalel, the tabernacle craftsman whom God filled with His Spirit. His artistry was a gift from God put to sacred use. This reminds us that all genuine skill comes from the Lord and finds its highest purpose in serving and glorifying Him.

Christ at the center

Solomon's glory, wisdom, and temple where God's presence dwells are a shadow of the greater Son of David — 'one greater than Solomon is here' — and of the true Temple, Christ himself.

How 1 Kings 7:14 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
