Quick answer

Solomon made two hundred large shields of beaten gold. It illustrates the ceremonial splendor of his court.

Overview

These oversized golden bucklers, each using a great weight of gold, were decorative emblems of royal magnificence rather than weapons of war. They displayed the king's wealth and majesty. Tragically, after Solomon's death these very shields were carried off by Egypt (14:25-26), a sobering reminder that earthly glory, however dazzling, is fleeting and cannot secure a kingdom.

Christ at the center

Solomon's glory, wisdom, and temple where God's presence dwells are a shadow of the greater Son of David — 'one greater than Solomon is here' — and of the true Temple, Christ himself.
