Quick answer

Paul asks where the wise, scribe, and debater now stand, since God has shown the world's wisdom to be foolish. Human learning cannot save or comprehend God's plan.

Overview

With a series of challenges echoing Isaiah, Paul dismisses the philosopher, scholar, and skilled arguer of the age. Their wisdom, impressive by worldly standards, is exposed as foolishness before the cross. God has reversed the world's value system, making the seemingly wise unable to find Him through their own intellect.
