Quick answer

The LORD greatly exalts Solomon in Israel's sight, granting him royal majesty surpassing any king before him.

Overview

Solomon's unequaled splendor is attributed to God's own action, not merely human achievement. His glory fulfills God's promise to David and displays divine favor on the kingdom. Yet this surpassing majesty is itself a foretaste of a greater King; for one greater than Solomon has come (Matthew 12:42), whose kingdom and glory have no end.
