Quick answer

This verse summarizes that the divisions were ordered for their service according to the pattern given through Aaron, as the Lord had commanded. Israel's worship rested on divine command, not human invention.

Overview

The Chronicler grounds David's organization in the authority handed down from Aaron and ultimately from God Himself (cf. Exod 28-29; Num 18). True worship follows God's revealed will rather than human preference. This principle runs through Scripture and finds its fulfillment in Christ, through whom believers now draw near to God in a way God Himself has appointed and approves (Heb 10:19-22).
