Quick answer
David is named as the seventh son of Jesse, the chosen king of Israel.
Overview
David, here listed as the seventh, is the goal toward which the whole genealogy has been moving (1 Samuel 16:13). God chose this youngest, unlikely son and anointed him king and ancestor of the Messiah. The covenant God made with David, of an everlasting throne, finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the Son of David (2 Samuel 7; Matthew 1:1).
