A prophet from the tribe of Levi living at the time of United Monarchy, first mentioned at 1Sa.1.20) referred to as Samuel (שְׁמוּאֵל), or Samuel (Σαμουήλ); a son of Elkanah and Hannah; father of Joel and Abijah.
