Shalom (Peace)
Quick answer
Shalom is wholeness — not merely the absence of conflict but the flourishing of all things rightly related to God.
Overview
More than calm or ceasefire, shalom is the way things are meant to be: people at peace with God, with one another, and with creation, everything in its right place and thriving. Sin shatters shalom; the prophets long for its return; the Messiah is the "Prince of Peace." Jesus makes peace "by the blood of his cross," reconciling us to God, and leaves his peace with his people — a foretaste of the restored wholeness of the new creation.
