Limitless Word

Eternity

Quick answer

God has no beginning and no end; he is not bound by time. "From everlasting to everlasting, you are God."

Overview

God is eternal — without beginning or end, not bound by the flow of time as we are. "Before the mountains were brought forth... from everlasting to everlasting you are God" (Ps 90:2). He does not grow older, run out of time, or fear the future; he holds past, present, and future in a single living "now."

This anchors hope. The God who makes promises about your future already inhabits it; he is not waiting to see how things turn out. And the eternal God offers to share his life with us — "eternal life" is not merely endless duration but participation in the deathless life of God himself. For creatures haunted by time and death, the eternal God is solid ground: he was there before all our troubles and will be there after them.
