Quick answer

Jeremiah replies 'Amen,' sincerely wishing Hananiah's hopeful words were true. His heart longs for restoration, even as he knows it will not come so soon.

Overview

Jeremiah's 'Amen' reveals he is no doom-loving prophet; he genuinely desires his people's good. He would rejoice if God truly restored the vessels and exiles quickly. Yet personal longing cannot override God's revealed word. This tender response shows that faithful preaching of judgment can coexist with deep compassion, as it did supremely in Christ who wept over Jerusalem (Luke 19:41).
