Quick answer

If Israel will not obey God's voice, the curses of the covenant will come and overtake them.

Overview

This verse pivots from blessing to the much longer list of curses. Just as blessings pursue the obedient, curses will chase down the rebellious. The solemn warning shows that covenant disobedience carries real and devastating consequences before a holy God.

Christ at the center

Moses promised a Prophet like himself to whom Israel must listen (18:15); Jesus is that Prophet, the one who keeps the covenant we broke and becomes the curse for us by hanging on a tree (Gal 3:13).
